Production Update Diary
This will be our production diary, written by Taffy. This group will be Taffy and Lauren Greene. We will be taking it in turns to do different parts of the project.
We started planning our music video today, and we decided on the song by Ed Sheeran, called 'The City', we've had the idea of going to London, also different parts of London to film in different scenes of the music video.
September, I began to create our storyboard today, me and Lauren both don't have much confidence in drawing, therefore this involved a lot of rubbing out and re-drawing.
26th September Lauren was not in school due to being sick, so Myself Jess and Amy did a video practice outside on the field, this was practising different shots such as Establishing shot of the setting, Medium shot of the character singing to the camera, close up of singer singing emotionally, tracking shot of singer from behind, furthermore a tracking shot of shot from front, High angle long shot of singer, Low angle shot of singer, Tracking 360 degrees around singer, Long shot zoom to close up and close up zoom out to long shot, lastly a shot of pan right across singer, pan left across singer.
The first shooting day of videoing in London on October 1st was a challenge and a risk, however, it was a good day. We filmed some a lot of scenes in many different locations of London, these were Liverpool street (Brick lane), Embankment, Convent garden and Piccadilly circus also Oxford circus. The weather took us back a little as it was cold, damp and wet, however this then helped us with our set theme of the video being quite depressing and lonely. I completed the filming on the day, Lauren did some filming also. In addition to this as a team we worked very well against the weather, taking it in turns to hold an umbrella under the camera. We took many photographs in brick lane, down an alley with many old/vintage looking homes. The photos came out clear, we took black and white shots and photos in colour, I then used windows live to edit the photographs a little.
October 5th today Lauren did some more editing on our music video these edits consist different locations of London, lots of rain also shots taken on the bus and tube. Lauren has just been testing different effects of editing, such as fast forwarding. Further I completed the account for our artist 'Andrew Manning' Twitter also a Facebook page. This was fun due to choosing photos for the display picture.
October 8th Lauren did more editing whiles I completed any additional blog work.
October 9th I completed a 'Prezi' slide to explain our ideas and inspirations also the style we chose for our music video, in addition the 'Audience' we are aiming our music video towards. Further on October the 9th Lauren did some more editing and tried out various effects on the editing software.
October 12th today, Lauren put together an 'out-take' video, this is to show all the filming which we aren't going to use in our music video, shots which didn't go as well, further videos we thought were funny and wanted to share with you. Through this lesson I worked on the theory side of the project, this was writing up all of the things that we took on the of filming. I plan to start the website for our artist next lesson, which will be 15th October, over the weekend on 13th and 14th October I will be completing any theory that I need to complete.
October 15th Lauren completed some blog theory, and I also completed some blog work. On October 16th Lauren did some editing on our video for part of the video and I started creating the website for our artist, this was a new experience. We also came to a decision in this meeting that we would go back to London to get some night shots as they were not enough, going back to London will help us to get any new ideas across into our video, also as winter is here it will be much easier for us to film, as it will be getting dark much earlier.
October the 17th me and Lauren both completed blog work and looked at are current music video and discussed what we could change or move into various places.
October the 19th me and Lauren shared blog posts that we had completed.
On the 24th of October in our lesson, we looked at other students music video, this was so that we could change parts in our own music videos, watching other students music video's allowed us to see what stage our own music video is at, and how we could improve. Me and Lauren then made a conclusion to go back to London to film any shots that we don't like in our own music video.
On the 7th of November my partner Lauren completed editing on our music video, whiles I updated our artists twitter and facebook. We had planned to go to London on the 11th November, however our artist Andrew unfortunately can not make it. This means that we will have to go to London on another day.
Friday 16th we are looking forward to going to a music video convention in London, this experience should be eye-opening and inspiring for our music video.Furthermore in this lesson I evaluated my own blog, this helped me to see what I could improve on.
Friday 23rd November today Lauren is updating me on the recent editing she has completed. I will be creating a shooting schedule for our next filming day in London, this will be on Thursday 29th November. Further in my free lesson I completed some research on how to improve our music video when we next go to London. In addition I also created a risk assessment table and a schedule table.
Monday 26th November I will be looking at the weather for the day we go to London, this will be this week. Lauren worked on our music video.
We went to London on Thursday the 6th December, we filmed our night shots, this then made our music video make more sense. When we went to London the weather was terrible, it was raining and it was cold, towards the end of the night it became harder to film as the rain made it difficult to film.
Its the New Year, 2013, Wednesday 16th January. Me and Lauren have filmed the last parts of the video in London, under the terrible weather conditions however we are so happy that we can say that we have a full draft video. Lauren has been working very hard on editing our music video. We now just need to edit final parts of our music video, to make sure that it flows well. Moreover whiles Lauren has been editing,I have been working on our website, which is now almost complete. In addition I am now working on the Digipak for our artist 'Andrew Manning' this is coming along well.
I have completed the front cover and the back cover of our album, I chose the theme of black and white, the photograph and the font, I chose this because this matches our narrative as our artist is lost in the city of London. I then chose black and white photos and coloured photos, for the digi pak, I wanted this to link to the narrative, however I wanted this to really stand out. Therefore attracting our target audience.
This is an overall update, me and lauren have been working really hard to finish our music video project,it's April 16th and we have completed our music video, and we are now currently finishing up our Evaluation, and making sure that opur website and Digi pak are done to our best of abilites.
The process of our evaluation has been challenging as we've had to think of various media techniques in order to avoid it being very text based. For one of our evaluation questions 'What have you learned from your audience feedback?' we filmed various students, we asked them what they thought of our music video and how we could make it better if we had the chance, this really helped us to look at our music video in a different light. We also used prezi and premiere to answer our evaluation questions, along with our the website videothread which allowed us to record ourselves, this also saved us doing a texted based evaluation.
It is the 26th of April Me and Lauren have completed a draft of our Evaluation questions, we will review these and continue to improve them, whiles using various media techniques.
